This was probably due to the war between the Fulani and the Bassa as has been discussed earlier. From Bugu they settled north of Lokoja and south of Abaji with their headquarters at Tawari, having successfully repelled the attacks of the Fulani and gave shelter to the people of Koton-karfe who were less fortunate.
